January 1 {One photo every day: January 2012}

Happy New Year.

May your year be as filled with giggles and wonder, as even the most ordinary moments in the life of a 16-month-old boy (in this instance, peek-a-boo under a face washer).

Xxx Sarah

PS. Images above are compliments of my new Fuji X100 (thanks Santa). All images are shot as jpg files, with no post production.

What just happened? [melbourne family photographer]

It’s a day late, but that’s the way I have been rolling, lately.

Merry Everything, Everyone.

PS. In a recent completely super-fun (3 week!!!!) migration of my website and blog to a new host, I seem to have lost a few blog posts. I am so sorry if this has affected your family, and I will try to get missing families back up soon).

Welcome to my new blog. I hope you like it here as much as I do. Please feel free to get comfy and stay around for a little while. And don’t forget to check back often for beautiful new stories, and some fun updates from me.

Canterbury Spring Makers Market [melbourne craft market]

I don’t usually visit markets, but this is a gorgeous little local one I couldn’t resist, run by my good friend Alison, who also makes stunning casual and dress jewellery in her spare time (when not running markets and performing as mum extraordinaire to her 3 little boys). I am going to take a few products down and enjoy a morning sitting in the sun and chatting (I am hoping there will be a coffee van!), so please feel free to come on down and say hello, and enjoy browsing some beautifully and lovingly made local produce….

Pretty Things Old and New [melbourne family photographer]

Please bear with me on the following total flight of fancy. I had to take some product shots of my new ipad cover for a client, and during the process of photographing them inside my office, became so utterly bored that I was forced to head outside to look for a more creative option. So, I give you, my new ipad cover (in the artistically derelict greenhouse in my garden).

I do promise that proper client sessions are coming very soon, spring has seen me so busy again without ever properly catching up really, on work from the first half of the year. A new blog (one that won’t hurt my eyeballs as much as this one does) is also coming soon.

I hope your spring is proving, so far, just as busy and happy as mine.

I {heart} summer

As the days lengthen, and the breeze grows warmer, and I ‘spray and wipe’  my birkenstocks in readiness for another sock-free season of freedom (seriously!), I get to thinking about how much I love the summertime.

And in celebration of sunshine, water, and the total absence of deadlines that accompanies my favourite time of year, I thought I would share some personal images taken at the end of January this year, on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula.

Tomorrow the weather will be glorious 24 degrees in Melbourne.. bring it on!

There’s no place like home [melbourne family photography]

I really love to photograph families in their homes. Our homes are so much a part of the life of any family, particularly for those of us with young children; we spend so many hours on trampolines, in cubby houses and hanging from Hills swing sets. I photographed this beautiful family at home a few months back now and as you can see this beautiful environment really is filled up with the love and laughter of its tiny inhabitants.

H family, it was truly a joy to meet you all, and spend some time making these memories for you. And Gab, I am beyond thrilled to have met you again and see what a wonderful family you have created. I am so happy for you!!

So, to everyone else, Happy Monday, and welcome back to more spring-like weather (at least until we get our roof fixed please)!

And just to spoil the mood, and because I am a leetle bit OCD and feel compelled to ruin the the vibe of my own blog post, I have to point out that Rupert is totally out of focus in this last one (DOH!!).  I will put that down to: total bone crunching fatigue + crazy hormones +2 year old boy = pot luck photography.

Have a beautiful day xxx

Love, life, and a handful of chaos…

So,  today, I fed my baby, and washed clothing. And sheets, dishes, faces.

I fed my baby, and changed tiny nappies. And bigger (less sweet smelling) nappies.

I fed my baby, and made a snail and a giant red back spider out of clay.

I fed my baby, and fetched wood, wiped away tears, rubbed sore knees, broke up arguments, found missing bunnies, read stories, combed hair, promised ice creams for those who ate their dinner, and slept.

I fed my baby, and took a little time to finish editing the mere handful of photos I have made the time to take.

And I forgave myself for being so busy living life that I have no time for recording it.

PS. Not edited on my usual computer, so not sure about colour saturation and tones.
